ABOUT US
WEFRA - Quality from the professionals
WEFRA was founded in 1929 as a family business with its original business areas being talc mining and granite trading. At that time, WEFRA already produced the cutting discs required for granite processing itself, thus laying the foundation for the production of high-performance abrasives, which began in 1955, as one of the first manufacturers in Germany. Today, our business development focuses on the highest product quality, reliable service, and market-oriented product development. Short delivery times, customer-oriented warehousing, and the rapid implementation of order-related production are our top priorities. Offers tailored precisely to the needs of our customers and detailed technical advice ensure that our customers receive the right product for their applications.
In 2025, the business operations of WEFRA WERKE were taken over by the STELLA GROUP and relocated to the new company headquarters in Schwarzenbach/Saale. The STELLA GROUP's parent company was founded in Marktredwitz in 1925 and produced abrasives with magnesite, ceramic, and synthetic resin bonds. At the beginning of the 1980s, the company was taken over by the Dr. Herrmann family. In the following years, several smaller abrasive manufacturers were integrated, including Winterling Keramik in Schwarzenbach/Germany in 1987. After reunification, Schmirgelwerk Chemnitz GmbH in Chemnitz/Germany and Capillar Schleifkörperwerk GmbH in Crosta/Germany followed.
Today, the
STELLA GROUP sees itself as a manufacturer of conventional abrasive specialties in ceramic and synthetic resin bonding, with a focus on specific areas of application such as gear machining, honing and superfinishing, and track superstructure. The STELLA GROUP's strengths lie in its flexibility, customer focus, and short delivery times. The product portfolio of WEFRA Schleifmittel GmbH ideally complements our range.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MANUFACTURING
We produce sustainably using solar energy
Our group of companies produces as sustainably and environmentally friendly as possible. To this end, we rely on renewable energies and, as a result, we already generate around 50% more electricity from four photovoltaic systems than we consume at our Schwarzenbach/Saale site. This corresponds to annual CO² savings of approximately 540 tons and confirms our corporate philosophy, which places sustainability, goal-oriented thinking, and forward-looking action at the heart of our corporate management.
